Skandavan
Skandavan is a serene two-acre site, ideal for experiencing a natural life-rhythm, particularly when wanting quiet time for practices such as dance, music, yoga, writing, meditation and self-reflection. It is also ideal for spending private time with a few friends, or working collaboratively.
Skandavan has mature trees and is located in the south-east of Auroville’s bio-region, close to its 40-acre botanical gardens (which serves organic lunches) and is a lovely area for walks and spotting peacocks. It is 3.5 kms from Auroville’s Visitors Centre and 6 kms from Pondicherry’s French quarter via the backroads, going through the Karuvaddikuppam village. The site has a large centrally located fish pond overlooked by a seated Buddha, several pets on the premises, an organic orchard, a Garden Studio, an indoor Studio and scattered dwelling units for visitors.
You need your own transport to live here and get around easily. Two wheelers and bicycles are plentiful for hire in the Auroville area, and reliable local taxi services are always available. Rekha, Michael and some permanent staff members live on the premises and can provide any assistance you require.

The Lotus Studio
The Lotus Studio:
This is a private living and working space for artists-in-residence or visitors, also listed on Airbnb. It is a separate cottage surrounded by foliage, comprising a single space studio-bedroom with a smooth blue floor, a large dome roof, big mirror, queen-size bed and two table spaces for computer work. It has a spacious courtyard-style, private bathroom attached. Shared kitchen facilities and wi-fi are available at the Dancers’ Cottage.
The Peacock Cottage
The Peacock Cottage:
This is a private living and working space comprises a self-standing, cottage-style structure set amidst trees, with a flat-dome brick roof, smooth blue floor, big mirror, a king-size bed that can be split into two single beds, table spaces for computer work, and a private bathroom. Shared kitchen facilities and wi-fi are available at the Dancers’ Cottage.
The Dancers’ Cottage Annexe:
The Dancers’ Cottage Annexe:
The Dancers’ Cottage Annexe is a small, private self-standing and attractive building located beside a large stone image of Saraswati at the end of the garden. It comprises a Ground Floor and a First Floor, each floor separately accessed from the garden and having a private bedroom with attached bathroom. The rooms are arranged with two beds each (on popular demand) as listed on Airbnb. They are however small, and best suited for long stays as single occupancy.
The building is positioned opposite the Dancer’s Cottage which is a common facility comprising a reading room with good wi-fi, a semi-open dinning/gathering space, a kitchenette, the Garden Studio, and an open shower and toilets.
Garden Studio
Garden Studio: Renting Workshop Space at Skandavan
The Dancers Cottage and its Garden Studio are available for rent to hold private rehearsals, classes and workshops, depending on availability.
Collaborations between Skandavan and guest teachers/artists have included Sufi Whirling, Non-duality Talks, Art Therapy, Vocal music & Naad Yoga, and Kalaripayattu.
